ROSS CROWNED SUPREME CHAMPION FIFTH YEAR RUNNING

Jayne Ross and the team from Carol Bardo’s Moor Farm, took the title of Supreme Horse of the year with Broadshard Simplicty, owned by Rossettes Direct, for the second consecutive year at the 2015 Horse of the year Show.

This is the second consecutive year Jayne has won the title with Broadshard Simplicty. She has taken it four times before that; with Coberton Clancy in 2011, and with The Philanderer in 2009 and 2004 with Soldier brave.

The team also had great success with Hello Dolly, owned by the Stennet’s, who took third in the Irish Horse Gateway Small Show Hunter of the Year championship. The pair were also took the top spot in the Great Scot! Ladies Side Saddle Horse of the Year championship. Middle Weight Hunter, Bloomfield Tetrarch, took the top spot in the TopSpec Middleweight Show Hunter of the Year, which took him through to the championship where he was placed second. Time 2 Reflect was second in TopSpec Lightweight Show Hunter of the Year and Bloomfield Excelsior, owned by Shade of Grey, took second place in Topspec Heavyweight Show Hunter of the Year. Jayne also rode Casino in The Colosso Family Small Riding Horse of the Year and was placed second. Fantastic Gift and It’s Abracobdabra were both placed 7^th in their respective classes.

Broadshard Simplicity also took The Colosso family Large Riding Horse of the Year  and The Colosso Family Riding Horse of the Year championship. Winning the Supreme Horse of the Year title has rounded of an amazing season for Jayne and the Moor Farm team.



TEAM BATES HEAD TO HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW (HOYS)

It’s the highlight of the showing calendar, and it is here. Horse of the Year Show starts today to begin a busy five days of everything equestrian and this year Absorbine sponsored Jo and Holly Bates are heading to Birmingham with a full lorry.  We caught up with the mother and daughter duo to see who they are taking to HOYS.

Daldorn Lara’s Theme, owned by Lady Benton Jones’, has had a successful season in Small Riding Horse classes. At only her third show of the season she qualified for Royal International Horse Show (RIHS) and successfully qualified for HOYS at the Wales and West County Show, under Jo.

Jo was excited to take on the talented coloured mare, Volatis Oriana, owned by Lucy Bridgewater, earlier this year and she has not been disappointed.  Volatis Oriana qualified in June at the Midlands Counties Show and will be ridden at HOYS by her owner Lucy.

Ex-racehorse, Sinnbad, by Sindar, has taken to his new career as a show horse, qualifying for HOYS in the SEIB Racehorse to Riding Horse class at Stretcholt and also in the Large Hack class at Ashbourne. Jo and his owner, Serena Leckie, will share the rides at HOYS.

Jo will also ride Maxi Cob, Collenridge, and Runnon Watergate who will contest the Small Riding Horse class. Downhill Snow Patrol will be rider by Jesscia Williams in the Small Plaited Coloured class.

Horse of the Year Show sponsored rider preview

 

HOYS is the climax of the showing year and it is just around the corner. Preparation for sponsored rider Jayne Ross and the team at Carol Bardo’s Moor Farm, is well under way. Jayne has won the title of Supreme Horse of the year at Horse of the Year Show four times in the past ten years.  Jayne and Rosettes Direct, Broadshard Simplicity took the title in 2014, Comberton Clancy won in 2011; 2009 with The Philanderer and 2004 with Soldier Brave. This is a completely unrivalled record so no pressure! The team are heading to HOYS 2015 with a strong list of entries so let’s check out who the team of horses is this year.

 

HOYS 2009

Hello Dolly, owned by Dianne Stennett’s, has had a fantastic season. At the Royal International Horse Show (RIHS) she took first in the small hunter championship, and the ladies hunter, and will contest the same classes at HOYS.

 

 

 

Time 2 Reflect, or ‘Betty’ as she is known as at Moor Farm, gave an incredible performance at RIHS earlier this year. She took the lightweight hunter class and championship title and went on to claim the overall Supreme Ridden Horse Championship. Owned by Diane Stennett, it will be an exciting time at HOYS for Betty.  

 

 

 

Jayne will also contest three other hunter’s, Tympony King, 6 year old middleweight Bloomfield Tetrarch, and five year old heavy weight Bloomfield Excelsior.



Last year Broadshard Simplicty, owned by Rosettes Direct, took centre stage at HOYS by being crowned Supreme Horse of the Year Champion, ridden by Jayne. Earlier that day, the pair took Riding Horse of the Year Champion and went on to take supreme making it Jayne’s fourth HOYS Supreme title. All eyes will be on Jayne and Broadshard Simplicity this year.

Jayne will also have Aidensfield Rupert in the coloured and middleweight class; Cobin Hood and It’s Abracobdabra wil contest the cob classes; Fantastic Gift in the Small Hack class, and Casino and Romanno Bedriska for the Riding Horse classes.

The Showing Council / Showing World Absorbine Groom of the Year Awards are divided into professional and amateur categories. We caught up with each of the 8 finalists to find out more about them.

Amateur Grooms Category

• Julie Carter, from Hertfordshire.

Julie grooms for her two daughters, Sofie (24) and Hannah (23), and was nominated by her friend, Charles Wilkinson, General Secretary of the British Show Horse Association. Julie has ridden all her life but now prefers to leave the riding to the girls. Working full time as HR director for the family business, Julie also looks after the girl’s five horses alongside work. In the winter she drives her daughters to events such as dressage and hunting but in the summer things get busy and they are out all season showing.

• Eamon McCourt, from Essex.

Eamon grooms for his wife, Rachel, who shows her six horses regularly in cob classes. Five years ago, the pair did not share their passion for horses as they do now; when Rachel went to ride her horse, Eamon would go and play golf. Over the years Rachel bought several more horses and Eamon’s golf handicap got increasingly worse as he became more involved with the horses. Although Eamon does not ride, he takes pride in the horses and always ensures they in to the ring looking immaculate.

• Edward Veale, 18, from Suffolk.

After many years of riding and showing himself, five years ago Edward turned his hand to grooming instead. He is now an essential part of his family’s showing team and regularly grooms for his sister, who nominated him for the awards. Alongside his work as a groom Edward will also be heading to university this month to read law.

• Joanna Stace, from West Sussex.

Joanna has been showing horses for the last 10 years and currently shows her own young show horses with her husband, David, who she credits for her success. Joanna works full time running a soft furnishings whole sale company but the summer is less busy for her with work, allowing her to spend more time with her horses. Her hard work has not gone unnoticed as friend and professional show producer, Garry Merton, nominated her for the award.  

 Professional Grooms Category

• Helen Horton, from Newbury.

Helen has been working for Team Ramsay for forty years and is completely dedicated to her work.  She began working for them at the age of 17 and has been there ever since only taking a short break from work to have her two children. It is now a family affair as Helen’s husband and daughter are also part of team Ramsey.  Helen works all year round at Team Ramsay and she enjoys all aspects of it.

• Fiona Wright, from Manchester.

Fiona has been working for top show horse producer Wayne Thorneycroft for many years. She is complete dedicated to her work with the horses and is a key member of the team at Wayne’s yard.  

• Hannah Godfrey, from Essex.

Hannah has been groom to top show producer, Katie Jerram, for nine years, and is second head girl on the Dunmow based yard. Hannah is extremely hard working, loyal and a great rider.  In her spare time she likes to compete her own horse at Dressage.

• Mark Chester, from Berkshire

Mark grooms for professional show horse producers Carol Bardo and Jayne Ross. He has groomed for them for many years and his turnout skills are legendary. Mark is hard working and his dedication to his work is well known in the showing circuit.

We recently received a lovely message for a keen young event rider, Megan Alecock, 14, from Dorset. Megan competes at Grassroots level with her 14.1 Welsh D X skewbald mare, Hamlin Ester. Charlotte and Billy Buzz

17 year old, British Junior event rider, Charlotte Bacon, has achieved a lot in her young years riding. Charlotte was selected to represent Great Britain in 2012 and 2013, at the European Pony Eventing Championships claiming Team Silver. In 2012, Charlotte also became
the only under 16 rider to qualify and compete at National Championship level in all three disciplines. With many great achievements under this young riders belt, the highlight of her career so far is winning team Gold at the European CCIP2* in Italy in 2013.

Charlotte is currently competing three horses in classes from BE100 to Intermediate and has recently been selected for the British Junior team. She will compete at the Junior European Championships in Poland this summer with her seven year old bay gelding Carrigsean Tigerseye, or British-bred chestnut nine year old mare Sannanvalley Justice who is owned by Miss Karen Huyton.
